Trichology expert provides students with top advice

June 13, 2014

An expert in trichology, which specialises in hair loss and hair transplants, visited hairdressing students at West Cheshire College to speak to them about this growing sector in the hair industry.

Richard Hall, from Chester Hair Clinic spoke to a group of Level 4 hairdressing students about how hair transplantation is carried out and to give them advice about working in the sector.

As there has been a number of high-profile celebrities having hair transplants, the popularity of having trichology treatments has increased.

Lesley Durham, Hairdressing Lecturer at West Cheshire College, said: “Trichology isn’t just for high profile celebrities. There is a definite growing trend in the UK and we expect it to continue to increase in popularity over the next few years.

“There are very few trichology clinics and practitioners in the North West so we were very lucky to have Richard visit us at the College. It was really helpful for our students to find out more about how it works and make them aware of what career opportunities are available.”

Kelly Tunstall, 18 from Helsby who is studying Level 4 Hairdressing, said: “The talk from Richard was really enjoyable. I had heard of trichology but didn’t know a lot about it; I certainly had never considered it as a career route so it was great to have an insight into it.

“We’ve had quite a few professionals from the hair industry come in to speak to us. They give us tips first hand and advice about how to get a job in the industry which is a great benefit of studying here at College.”

Richard Hall, owner of Chester Hair Clinic, said: “I really enjoyed my visit to West Cheshire College and speaking to the students.

“Hair loss conditions can be very distressing, which is why Trichology has significantly increased, but not a lot of people consider it as a career option.

“My training with the Institute of Trichologists in London enables me to speak to the students about how to obtain a career in this specialised area.”

The hairdressing salon at the College, which is used for training students and open for external clients, has been relaunched as the Eden Hair and Beauty salon.

The salon is open Monday to Friday and offers a range of hair and beauty treatments including nails, massages and microdermabrasion.
