Superstar Apprentice wins excellence award

June 13, 2014

Neighbourhood investor Plus Dane Group has awarded West Cheshire College Apprentice, James Page, with a prestigious Excellence Award at their Annual Apprentice Awards.

James, 20, from Ellesmere Port, who is currently completing an Advanced Apprenticeship in Carpentry and Joinery at Plus Dane, was praised for his commitment to learn of Plus Dane’s core principle of excellence.

The glitzy awards event was held at the Florrie in Liverpool to recognise the achievements of the organisation’s up-and-coming young people.

James, when asked about winning the award, said: “It was such a surprise to win the award as I had no idea.

“During my Apprenticeship I have had the opportunity to carry out maintenance on various properties, which has improved my skills.

“I would definitely recommend an Apprenticeship for anyone wanting to develop practical abilities and gain a qualification at the same time.”

James, along with other Apprentices awarded on the evening, were nominated by their peers and Line Managers within Plus Dane.

The celebration also revealed the six Plus Dane Apprentices that have been named to take part in a leg of the first Apprentice Ship Challenge cup race in June.

The Apprentices, including James, will be fully trained to make up part of a ship’s working crew on a five day voyage from Liverpool to Whitehaven in Cumbria.

The race has been organised by the Merseyside Adventure Trust, who plan to turn the Apprentice Ship Challenge Cup, part of the Mersey River Festival, into an annual event.

Plus Dane Chief Executive Ken Perry, who presented the awards, said: “Our Apprentices play a vital role in our organisation and deserve our utmost thanks for the contributions they make to Plus Dane on a daily basis.

“Their ideas and their enthusiasm to learn really brings a freshness to the business and adds a real value to our organisation.

“The awards are a chance to recognise the hard work of our apprentices and help to inspire them to go on to achieve their very best.”
