West Cheshire College students Jason Bradshaw and Jade Cottrell have secured jobs as Holiday Representatives with Thomas Cook

The travel company came to the College for the second year running to hold a recruitment day in preparation for their summer season.

The students will undergo a week’s training in Majorca before being allocated a destination within Europe to work in for the summer months. The students had to go through a rigorous interview process which included delivering a presentation and role play scenarios.

Jason Bradshaw, 21 from Chester, who is studying a HND in Travel and Tourism, is one of the students to be selected as a Holiday Representative.

He said: “I am really looking forward to working abroad as a Holiday Representative. I don’t know where in Europe I will be going to yet which makes it even more exciting.

“The tutors really helped me to prepare for the recruitment day and I was able to put everything I have learnt from my course into practice during the interview.”

Heather Tinker, travel and tourism tutor at West Cheshire College, said: “It is an excellent achievement that so many of our students have secured jobs with Thomas Cook for the summer season.

“The students will learn so much from having the hands-on experience and the skills learnt from their vocational course will really benefit them in their role.”

Helen Nellist, Acting Principal of West Cheshire College, said: “We are delighted with the success of our students following the recruitment drive. Our vocational courses are designed to prepare our learners for the workplace and increase their employability and this success shows that we have achieved that.”

Chris Medd from Thomas Cook, said: “Travel offers some great entry level roles and becoming a rep provides the opportunity to work overseas, explore new cultures, gain excellent business skills and be part of a fantastic team.

“This is all on offer to applicants who are prepared to work hard and who have a natural passion to deliver exceptional customer service. We’re delighted to have eight students from West Cheshire College join our team and will be looking to recruit more again next year.”
