Students become Principal for the Day

June 13, 2014

Two students at West Cheshire College had a unique opportunity to swap places with College Principal, Nigel Davies for the day.

Jamie Parry and Radha Evans won the ‘Be a Principal for the Day’ competition after writing 100 words about why they thought they would be good for the role.

The students each took charge of the College for a day and attended meetings with the College’s senior management team.

Radha Evans, 17, from Little Sutton who is studying BTEC Extended Diploma in Travel and Tourism said: “Before winning the competition I didn’t have a clue about what Nigel actually does.

“It was really interesting to have an insight into his role. He showed me a planner of his week and I couldn’t believe how many meetings and appointments he has to attend.

“In the future I would like to become a teacher in travel and tourism but I don’t think I would like to be a Principal as it seems like a very stressful job.”

Jamie, 22, from Ellesmere Port who is studying BTEC Extended Diploma in Performing Arts, said: “I wanted to get a taste of how the College was run and how much work goes into being the Principal.

“It was very interesting to see the full management team working together.

“Spending the day as the principal helped me with my professional manner in a business setting.”

Nigel is now gearing up to become a student for the day and attend lessons.

Nigel said: “I came up with the idea of the competition as I thought it would be beneficial for myself and students to swap roles so we can understand each other’s experiences of College life.

“It was a great opportunity for both Jamie and Radha to have an insight into what happens within the management of the College and so they understand more about the work we do.”
