Students bake for historical Eclipse

April 2, 2015

Hospitality and catering students celebrated the solar eclipse by making special sun and moon cakes for children at the Countess of Chester Hospital.

The Level 1 students delivered the cakes on Friday (20th March) to celebrate the historic event which last occurred in 1999.

Louise Crompton, Head of Hospitality and Catering at West Cheshire College, said: “We wanted to mark this special occasion and what better way than to give something to young patients from our local area.

“Our students really enjoyed being creative and making different sun and moon cakes for the Eclipse.

“We had a great response from the children at the hospital who received the cakes and we hope they helped to make it a memorable occasion for them.”

Sister Anne Martyn, Ward Manager on the hospital’s Children’s Unit, said: “The cakes were a lovely way for the children to remember the solar eclipse. I would like to thank the students for their thoughtfulness and hard work.

“All of the patients on the Children’s Unit were given a cake and any that were nil by mouth were given a cake to take home with them.”
