Student secures career with Apprenticeship

August 29, 2014

A former Apprentice from West Cheshire College is celebrating after securing a permanent job with leading glass manufacturer Quinn Glass.

Michael Crotty, 23, from Wallasey, Wirral, has recently completed a four year Apprenticeship in Engineering at the Chester based manufacturer. After impressing his employers with his skills and enthusiasm, he secured a permanent position as a Maintenance Engineer.

Michael said: “The Apprenticeship was great as I got to combine hands-on work experience with theory work.

“I learnt so much from my Apprenticeship and it has been the best way to kick-start my career. I have a lot of friends who are at university and I feel like I’m in a better position than them thanks to the Apprenticeship.

“I’m delighted that I have secured a permanent role at Quinn Glass and I’m excited for the challenge that my new role will bring me.”

Andrew Molyneux, Assistant Manager for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Apprenticeships at West Cheshire College, said: “Michael worked extremely hard during his Apprenticeship and his dedication has secured him a successful and exciting future with Quinn Glass.

“Apprenticeships are a fantastic way for students to gain both work experience and qualifications to have a head start in their preferred industry.

“Michael is a great example of how Apprenticeships are ideal for those students and that hard work really does pay off.”

Michael’s success didn’t stop there as last year Quinn Glass nominated him for a Worshipful Company of Glass Sellers Award where he was named Best Apprentice of the Year.

Michael said:  “I was so pleased to have won the award; it is great to know that your company has faith in you and that all my hard work has been recognised.”

West Cheshire College is holding drop in sessions at their Ellesmere Port Campus for people looking for their next steps on 21st August as young people can still enrol now onto a range of vocational courses that could lead to Apprenticeships and A Levels.
