Student is tip top in nail competition

June 13, 2014

A nail services student from West Cheshire College was awarded first place at the International Nail Championships 2014 as part of an exhibition for professionals and students in the beauty industry.

Georgia Yeardsley, 19, from Ellesmere Port took first place in the Nail Starters Tip and Overlay category and Lynda Young, 37, from Connahs Quay came third in the competition at Professional Beauty’s London ExCel show.

Georgia, who is studying City and Guilds Diploma in Nail Services Level 3, said: “The overall experience was great and has given me a lot more confidence.

“I was competing against eight other people in my category so to take first place was a great achievement.

“I was nervous and it took the judges two hours to decide the winner which really built up the tension.

“Studying at the College has been brilliant, I have gained lots of practical experience and the tutors have been very supportive. I finish my course in June and I am hoping to get a job working in a beauty salon on a cruise ship.”

Both students were put forward by their tutor Andrea Rimmer. The students had to set up their own table, create a set of acrylic nails using natural tips and overlay and buff both hands to a high shine and paint one hand  in red crème polish.

Andrea Rimmer, Salon Manager in Beauty at West Cheshire College, said: “I am so proud of the achievements of both Georgia and Lynda as they both did so well in the competition.

“We encourage all of our students to participate in competitions as it helps with their enrichment and boosts their confidence.

“The fact that we had students who took first and third place in a national competition just shows the high calibre of students we have here at the College.”
