Rackline helps create new landmark university library

Storage manufacturer Rackline has installed a variety of innovative storage solutions into the new £57 million Sir Duncan Rice library development at Aberdeen University - dubbed the ‘library of the future.’


Rackline’s innovative storage installed at the University of Aberdeen.


Newcastle-under-Lyme based Rackline won the £500,000 contract after winning a competitive tender process through the Government Procurement Service.


The project included installing their Proform static shelving and Multitrak mobile shelving to maximise on the available storage space.


The library was designed by Schmidt Hammer Lassen Architects and will be used by 15,500 students, staff and academic researchers, the business and corporate sector, as well as the people of Aberdeen and north-east Scotland as a whole.


Daniel Laurie, Sales Manager at Rackline, said: “The design of the new library is stunning and we are very proud to be involved in such a prestigious project.


“Our remit was to provide storage solutions that maximised on space in the new building. The shelving units we design and manufacture can hold up to 15 tonnes per carriage and can be easily moved, so they are ideal for a library of this size.”


The University library has been created to be a landmark of learning bringing high quality resources to students, community and visitors of Aberdeen to support the University’s academic ambitions and international reputation.


The library also contains historic collections and space for expansion providing the University with the opportunity to acquire further treasures.
