Nail student continues winning streak

June 25, 2014

A student from West Cheshire College is celebrating after winning the second competition this year for her nail designs.

Georgia Yeardsley took top spot in the Enhancement Student Tip and Overlay category at the National Nail Championships in Beauty UK held at the NEC Birmingham. The success comes after winning in the same category at Professional Beauty’s London ExCel show in March.

The success for Georgia, who is studying nail services, didn’t stop there as in the same week she took third place in the Advanced Nail Enhancement Competition World Skills Regional Competition in St Helens.

Georgia, 19, from Ellesmere Port, completed a full set of acrylic nails and beat off stiff competition from 10 other competitors.

She said: “I was a lot more confident this time after my success earlier in the year. My tutor put me forward for the competition; she’s extremely supportive always pushing us to do well.”

Georgia’s talents have been recognised as she has already secured a permanent job when she finishes College as a Nail Technician at a local salon.

Other successes from the College at the Birmingham event included Lynda Young who came third and Gaynor Elliot, who came fifth in the same category.

At the St Helens event, student Lauren Carr came first in the Advanced Nail Enhancement competition and Emma Parhiz took the top spot in the Intermediate Nail Enhancement competition.

All the students are waiting to hear back on whether they will compete in the National Finals held in Birmingham’s NEC in November.

Andrea Rimmer, Salon Manager in Beauty at West Cheshire College, said: “I am so proud of the students who have done fantastically well in the competitions and it shows just how talented they are.

“Georgia is an excellent student and she deserves every success and I’m delighted she has secured a permanent job when she finishes College.”
