June 13, 2014

Car manufacturer Vauxhall in Ellesmere Port, with the support of Unite the union and specialist further education college West Cheshire College, is offering staff at Ellesmere Port the chance to improve their English and maths skills.

The new Level 1 and Level 2 qualifications in literacy and numeracy will help those employees wanting to brush up on their English and maths skills and will be delivered in Vauxhall’s new purpose built Learning Centre.

The new Learning Centre officially opens Monday 19th May with Andrew Miller MP for Ellesmere Port, Phil Millward HR Director at Vauxhall and Nigel Davies, Principal and Chief Executive of West Cheshire College. Employees who have already enrolled on the new courses will also be attending the celebrations.

Phil Millward, HR Director at Vauxhall, said: “We are delighted to announce the start of these new courses which will give employees the chance to gain the equivalent of a GCSE qualification.

“The qualifications will help employees build their basic skills which will provide benefits both at work and in their personal lives.

“At Vauxhall we are committed to being the ‘workplace of choice’ in the region and we continually look to invest and improve the skills of all our employees.”

Nigel Davies, Principal and Chief Executive at West Cheshire College, said: “Good numeracy and literacy skills are essential for young people and adults to achieve their full potential whether in their career or personal life. Vauxhall’s new initiative is a great opportunity for their employees to improve their basic skills in English and maths and we are delighted to be involved.”

The new Learning Centre will also provide employees with access to computers as well as easy learning library books to support their learning.
