Innovative partnership helps young people with their future skills

November 12, 2012

The Young People’s Service, which provides help and advice to young people about their future, is now open at West Cheshire College in Ellesmere Port.

The Service, formally known as Connexions, launched in April 2012 but has only recently started to operate from the College’s Campus on Sutton Way.

Jo Kavanagh from West Cheshire College with Kevin Woods from Young People’s Service as they open the new help and advice service at the College’s Ellesmere Port Campus.

The Service will now be delivered in conjunction with the College and Jobcentre Plus, which is also based at the College, providing impartial information for 16-19 year olds who are currently not in education, employment or training.

Jo Kavanagh, Assistant Manager in Careers Development at West Cheshire College, explains: “The service will provide young people who are not in education or employment with all the help and support they need to get into the workplace or into further education.

“This is the start of what I think will be a very successful partnership and I hope that young people from the area will embrace the services available to them.”

The service provides free impartial information, advice and guidance to help young people unlock their potential and help achieve their career goals. Services include CV support as well as sign posting them to relevant services such as Apprenticeships, training and College courses.

Lynn Davies, Operations Manager for Cheshire West and Chester Council’s Young People’s Service, said: “We recognise that some young people need more support to get into the workplace or to access further education or training.

“This exciting new service provides a range of help and advice to help them to make the right decisions for their future, and support them in achieving their goals.

“We are proud to be working with West Cheshire College and Job Centre Plus on this truly innovative approach to providing joined up services for young people in Ellesmere Port.”

The Young People’s Service is open Monday to Thursday 1-5pm and Friday 1-4.30pm at the College’s Ellesmere Port Campus on Sutton Way.
