Former student fits perfectly into new role

September 1, 2014

A former sports student from West Cheshire College has thrived in his role at The Old Hall Country Club and Spa, Chester by working his way up to become Assistant Manager.

Gareth Preston, 23, from Chester, studied a BTEC Extended Diploma in Sports and Leisure at the College before landing a job as a Fitness Instructor at the Country Club.

Due to Gareth’s hard work and dedication, he progressed to a Personal Trainer and now, Gareth has been promoted to Assistant Manager.

Gareth said: “I really enjoyed the course as it was a good mix of practical and theory work.

“My day-to-day role includes making sure members of the gym are happy, inductions, delivering one-to-one training sessions, sorting out memberships and doing maintenance work – so it’s very varied.

“The course definitely opened doors for me to work in this industry and I would recommend it to other people.

“I think very highly of the College and tutors in particular, which is why we are in the process of launching an Apprenticeship scheme at the gym through West Cheshire College.”

Geoff Hilton, Sport Programme Leader at West Cheshire College, said: “We are delighted with Gareth’s success in his career.

“He worked extremely hard while he was a student at the College and had a lot of drive to do well. Gareth is definitely an asset to The Old Hall Country Club and Spa.”
