West Cheshire College football team were named champions of the British College Sport Division Two

The students took first place in the regional division of the national league and the win means they have been promoted to Division One.

The 11-a-side team, which is made up of sports and public services students from the College, have only recently formed, making the win even more of an achievement.

Jason Doggett, sports tutor at West Cheshire College, said: “The students worked really hard and pulled together as a team so they really deserve the win.

“Getting so close to winning the Cheshire Cup gave them the motivation to do even better in the league and they are all delighted to win the trophy.

“Being part of the football team helps the students with their enrichment and development.

“We are looking for more students to sign up to the football team and I think that the bonus of playing in Division One will encourage more people to join us.”

West Cheshire College is in the process of setting up a Football Development Centre, which gives talented young footballers the chance to combine their studies of BTEC in Sports with football training and participation in regular football matches.
