Employees at Jaguar Land Rover complete new qualification in engineering

June 20, 2014

40 employees from Jaguar Land Rover’s Halewood plant received certificates in a People Recognition event after completing an NVQ  in Engineering in Technical Support qualification through West Cheshire College and specialist training partner, KZN.

The qualification, introduced into Jaguar Land Rover for the first time, was developed to support the car manufacturer’s pioneering automotive manufacturing  digital production management system.

Ken Jones, Production Systems Manager at Jaguar Land Rover, said: “The qualification was completed by Senior Managers, Supervisors, Group Leaders and members of the Maintenance Team and the training enables our employees to use our new system efficiently.”

Brian Stone, Lean Manufacturing Manager at Jaguar Land Rover, added:  “We are very proud of the achievements of everyone who has completed the qualification.

“The qualification was specifically tailored to reflect the new working practices of our new production management system – it was great to see so many employees embrace the new system and be rewarded by completing a nationally recognised qualification at the same time.”

The training, which took staff between nine and 12 months to complete, included modules on safety requirements, working efficiently and effectively in engineering, interpreting engineering data and resolving engineering and manufacturing problems.

Employees completed the course after developing an e-portfolio of evidence using the new system.

Sian Williams, Business Account Advisor from West Cheshire College, said: “The College is delighted to have partnered with Jaguar Land Rover to deliver this new qualification. With all workplace training we aim to deliver qualifications that add real value to our employer’s business as well as provide individuals with the opportunities to progress and develop.”

At the People Recognition celebration a Star Award was also presented to Dave Parry, Lean Learning Academy and Integrated Production Systems Group Leader at Jaguar Land Rover in recognition of his outstanding achievement on the course. Dave, who has worked at Jaguar Land Rover for over six years, was instrumental in supporting other people completing the qualification. Dave said: “I was so shocked to receive the Award and very honoured that my hard work has been recognised.”
