College launches new Engineering course

West Cheshire College has launched a new and exciting engineering course which provides more hands-on experience for students.

The City and Guilds Level 3 Diploma in Engineering- Fabrication and Welding will launch in September and has been introduced to give students a more practical-based qualification proving them with the best skills and experience.

The course includes hands-on experience of working with the tools, processes and materials in the engineering sector covering units such as Health and Safety; Principles of Fabrication and Welding; Manual Metal Arc Welding of Materials; Sheet Metalwork Fabrication of Materials and Detailed Fitting of Materials.

The course will be delivered at the College’s state-of-the-art Chester Campus which boasts industry standard facilities including a lean manufacturing line, mechanical workshop, welding bays, lathes and milling machines.

Andrew Molyneux, Assistant Manager for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Apprenticeships at West Cheshire College, said: “We are always looking to develop our courses to give students the right skills and experience to go into employment or progress to university.

“The new course means that students will leave with a qualification and real life work experience from our industry standard facilities.”
