College joins in with art festivities

June 13, 2014

West Cheshire College’s art department is joining in with the celebrations for Ellesmere Port’s Arts Festival (5th March to 29th April).

The College is transforming into a gallery to mark the six week arts festival as well as celebrating the work of talented artists studying at the College.

On Wednesday 26th March, the College is welcoming members of the public to its Ellesmere Port Campus to a talk with well-known artist, Nicholas Mynheer. Nicholas, who produces paintings, sculpture and glass work will be delivering a speech about his artwork from 2pm.

Throughout the Festival, art and fashion design students studying at the College will have their artwork and fashion garments on display at the College’s Ellesmere Port Campus. The Campus will also exhibit work from the Methodist Art Collection as well as creations from talented students from Whitby High School.

The logo for the Festival was also designed by College art and design student Michael Holden.

Michael, 19, from Neston, said: “Our tutor approached our class with the opportunity to design the logo. I went with an abstract design and used lots of circles in different colours to represent the different places and people in the community all coming together for this celebration.

“I was amazed that my logo was picked and it came as such a shock but it is really good that my hard work and effort has paid off with this recognition.”

John Lansley, Programme Leader for Art and Design at West Cheshire College, said: “The College is delighted to be part of the festival.

“It is the first festival of its kind in Ellesmere Port and I think it is great that different members of the community have come together to celebrate their love of art.

“It has been a great experience for our students to get involved with the Festival and showcase their talents.”

Tickets for the speech by Nicholas Mynheer are free and available from reception at the College’s Ellesmere Port Campus.
