College helps build new careers

September 10, 2014

With the construction industry in the UK enjoying the biggest new jobs boom in 17 years*, West Cheshire College has launched a new Introduction to the Building Trades course for adults aged 19 and over.

The course, at the College’s Ellesmere Port Campus, will run for two days per week for three weeks throughout 2014/ 15 with the first course starting 12 September.

Aimed at helping adults develop the skills needed to secure jobs in the industry, the course will cover construction based tasks such as building a brick wall, plastering techniques and developing woodwork skills.

Jimmy Crewe, Project Manager at West Cheshire College, said: “We’ve developed the course to enable people to retrain and develop new skills that will help them gain jobs in the construction industry.

“Students on the course will be taught by experienced tradespeople who will help them to develop their skills as well as offer advice and support.”

The Cheshire West and Chester Council funded project requires no experience and aims to improve adults’ skills and experience to help them with future employment.
