Childcare students celebrate employment success

September 26, 2014

Students who completed their Childcare course at West Cheshire College are celebrating after 93 per cent have now gone on to secure employment in the sector.

With births in 2012 at their highest level since 1970, the demand for childcare and therefore jobs is set to increase so now is the perfect time to start studying for a career in the industry.

Amy-Louise Davies is one of the successful students who secured employment after impressing employers during her final work placement at Brambley Hedge Nursery in Little Stanney.

Amy, 19, from Ellesmere Port said: “I loved the Childcare course at College. We had four placements during the two year course which really built on my experience and improved my skills.

“My last placement was at Brambley Hedge which I really enjoyed and I was delighted when they offered me a role as a Nursery Practitioner.”

Katie Salomonson, Manager at the Brambley Hedge Nursery, said: “It’s fantastic that the College organises the placements so we were able to support Amy’s learning and development by teaching her our routine and the way we work.

“When Amy started her permanent job, she already had completed our essential training and took to the role instantly.

“We have been delighted with the placement students we’ve had through West Cheshire College and we look forward to welcoming more this academic year.”

Steph Garret, Head of School for Health and Wellbeing at West Cheshire College, said: “We are delighted with the high level of success rate of students progressing to employment after completing the course.

“The course is designed around students getting the right skills and experience to be work ready. We have dedicated Childcare Assessors who work together with students to maximise their potential in their work and placements.

“The placements give our students the chance to develop student’s personal, social and employability skills and we only utilise placements which have received an Ofsted grade of good or outstanding.

“Due to the baby boom and the increase of wrap around care, there are more opportunities than ever in Childcare.”
