Careers Week celebrations help students discover future career

April 2, 2015

West Cheshire College celebrated National Careers Week (2nd-6th March) by arranging a series of interesting key speakers and events to inspire students to achieve their dream career.

The College’s Careers, Finance and Welfare team organised a series of guest speakers from organisations including Balfour Beatty, RAF, CES UK, Chester Racecourse, Kelsall Primary School, Money Supermarket, Cheshire Police, the NHS, University of Law and the Army.

Fun events for students included Balfour Beatty running a ‘Tower in an Hour’ competition in which construction students had to assemble a structure in just 60 minutes. Cheshire Police also bought in their police dogs for students to find out about dog handling.

Lucie White, Careers Adviser at West Cheshire College, said: “We arranged for guest speakers to come in for all curriculum areas across the College so students can find out more about what it is like to work in a particular industry.

“We wanted to raise awareness about the different career routes available for them which they may not have considered before.

“We had incredible feedback from students who really enjoyed being involved in the activities. It’s been very encouraging as we’ve already seen an increase in the number of students booking an appointment with the Careers, Finance and Welfare team to discuss their future career plans.”
