Business course has record year

August 28, 2014

Business students at West Cheshire College had a record year last year (2013-2014) after the highest number of students ever secured the maximum grades of triple Distinction star.

The course had a 100 per cent pass rate with 18 per cent of students gaining the highest possible grade.

Over half of the students have progressed onto a degree course, gaining places at universities including the University of Liverpool, Newcastle University, Lancaster University, Manchester Metropolitan, University of Birmingham and Swansea University.

Other students have progressed onto employment or Apprenticeships with companies including Unilever and Airbus.

Dean Duckworth, 18, from Ellesmere Port achieved triple Distinctions star in his Extended Diploma in Business. He said: “My cousin studied business at the College and he got into university so I thought it would a great way for me to progress on to a degree course too.

“The tutors were really helpful and I learnt a lot from the course as we covered various modules.

“We covered employment law and HR law which I found particularly helpful as I am now going to Lancaster University to study law and eventually I want to specialise in employment law.”

Liz Tattum, Business Tutor from West Cheshire College, said: “We have had a fantastic year of achievements on the business course.

“All of the students worked so hard to achieve their high results. I’m so proud of them all and I know they will have a successful career ahead of them.

“The results show a mix of students going to university or employment which clearly shows that the course is a direct route to employment or higher education.

“I wish all of this year’s leavers the best of luck for the future.”

Prospective students can still enrol now onto a wide range of vocational courses, Apprenticeships and A Level courses starting in September. For more information please call 01244 656555 or visit
