Apprentices celebrate after securing jobs

August 6, 2013

Apprentices from West Cheshire College’s hair and beauty department are celebrating after securing permanent job positions in the industry after completing Apprenticeships.

Apprentices combine working in the industry with studying at the College’s beauty and hairdressing salon

The College offers a wide range of hair and beauty Apprenticeships at salons across the region where learners combine gaining hands-on skills in the workplace with attending the College for one day a week to learn theory work.

As Apprenticeships provide real-life experience in the industry, the success rate of Apprentices gaining a job in the industry is very high.

Sarah Hall, 20, from Ellesmere Port recently completed an Apprenticeship in Nail Services with Planet Hair and Beauty in Little Sutton and gained a full-time job at the salon as a Nail Technician.

She said: “I studied a Level 2 full-time course in nails at the College and when I progressed to Level 3, my tutor suggested the Apprenticeship at the salon. I thought that it would be great to use the skills I had already learnt at College in a work environment.

“I love working at the salon. My day-to-day role includes doing manicures, pedicures as well as shellac, acrylic and gel nails.

“My favourite part of the job is working with the clients and I now have a number of my own regular clients.”

Victoria Faye, 19, from Ellesmere Port, has just finished a hairdressing Apprenticeship at Style Council salon in Ellesmere Port and secured a job there straight after finishing her Apprenticeship.

She said: “When I started my Apprenticeship I was assisting the hairdressers in the salon but I soon progressed to cutting and styling hair on my own clients.

“I really enjoyed my Apprenticeship and I believe that it is the best way of getting into the industry as the theory work you learn at College is put into practice in the workplace. My favourite thing about the job is working with different clients.

“I would recommend an Apprenticeship to other people looking to be a hairdresser. I’m delighted to have secured a job with Style Council and I’m looking forward to building up my clients there.”

West Cheshire College offers a wide range of Apprenticeships in a diverse subject range including construction, business, retail, hospitality and catering, childcare, health and social care, construction and engineering.

The College is hosting two ‘Make a Successful Apprenticeship Application’ sessions at their Ellesmere Port Campus- Tuesday 13th August at 2pm for 16-18 year olds and on Wednesday 14th August at 2pm for people aged 19 and over.

Places on the sessions are limited- to book your place or to find out more information about Apprenticeships call the College hotline on 01244 656555 or visit
