Apprentice works her way to the top

April 2, 2015

Former West Cheshire College beauty Apprentice Mallaidh Long has enjoyed a trio of successes since completing her training at the Doubletree by Hilton hotel - she has secured a permanent job, been promoted to Team Leader and won the hotel’s ‘Therapist of the Year’ award.

Mallaidh, 18, who lives in Chester, did the year-long Apprenticeship at the Chester based hotel as she wanted to combine learning with working. Despite only completing the Apprenticeship in the summer, Mallaidh has been promoted to Team Leader who oversees the work of 20 Beauty Therapists.

Mallaidh said: “I loved doing my Apprenticeship and learning on the job has really helped to improve my skills. I moved over to Chester from Ireland two years ago so it has been a fantastic opportunity to build my confidence and meet new people.

“I’m delighted to have been promoted to Team Leader at the spa. I provide extra support for the Head Therapist and work with a group of 20 Therapists to offer them advice, help to hit their targets and ensure that they complete their jobs correctly.

“I’m also the spa’s Elemis Ambassador which I love. I keep a stock of what we are selling and feedback to Elemis what the popular products are and I also have created an Elemis board to promote different products to staff and clients.

“I was so happy that I was nominated to win Therapist of the Year for the hotel. It came as such a shock but it means that all of my hard work has been recognised and I’m very proud of my achievement.”

Jodi Pickering, Spa Operations Manager at the Doubletree, said: “Mallaidh is a great team member; enthusiastic, helpful, knowledgeable and always keen to help others.

“Mallaidh takes great pride in her work, is a great therapist and always contributes positively to the team. Having achieved so much already, she is set for a long career in the industry.”

Louise Lucas, Business Development Executive from West Cheshire College, said: “Mallaidh has done so well from her Apprenticeship.

“She is really talented and has worked extremely hard to achieve her success. Mallaidh is a great example of how undertaking an Apprenticeship can give you a fantastic head start to a successful and rewarding career.”
