A scary future for enterprising students

October 30, 2012

Two enterprising technical theatre students from West Cheshire College have set up a new events company called ScareTech.

Daniella Johnson and Kelvin Lloyd, who are both studying a HND in Technical Theatre, created the company which hosts semi-permanent scare attractions in and around Chester.

The ScareTech team is made up completely of current and ex-students of West Cheshire College in a bid to give them a kick start or to further their career in the industry.

Attractions created by ScareTech include ‘The Slaughter House’, ‘The Unknown’ and ‘Condemned’. Using ground breaking special effects, compelling scenic design and theatrical lighting, the scare attractions create a new and frightening experience for horror fans and theatre goers.

Daniella, 20, from Deeside, said: “Myself and Kelvin founded ScareTech as we both have a strong passion for the technical theatre industry. We have an eye for scenic design and use technical theatre to create the scariest of atmospheres.

“The aim of the business was to expand the opportunities offered within the scare industry.  We have mainly been working in the Chester area, but we are looking to expand our services throughout the North West.

“One of the reasons we set up the company is to create a new take on entertainment for the city and to introduce local people to the growing trend of the scare industry.

“The College tutors have been a massive help for us setting up the business. The course has given us all of the skills and experience needed to set up the business and make it successful.”

Angie Berwick, Qualification Leader for HND in Performing Arts, said: “Daniella and Kelvin have shown so much enthusiasm and commitment in setting up ScareTech.

“The ScareTech team is made up completely of ex and current West Cheshire College students and it is an excellent way of showcasing the high level of talent we have at the College.”

On Halloween, Scaretech are presenting their live scare attraction ‘Vendetta’ at the College’s John Prescott Theatre, Ellesmere Port at 2-4pm and 5-7pm. If you think you’re brave enough to attend call 01244 656 308 for more information.
